BC Campus - Open Textbooks Call for Proposals Phase 2

Friday, November 15, 2013
Submission Deadline:
Fri, 11/15/2013
Phase 2: Adapt, localize or extend an existing open textbook

Synopsis of Phase 2

In phase 1 of the project, we harvested a number of existing open textbooks and worked with B.C. post-secondary faculty to review them. The review process enabled us to provide texts for 12 of the top 40 subject areas, with some areas having more than one text.

In phase 2, we are looking for instructors interested in adapting existing open resources to create textbooks in two ways:

Type One Adaptations, which fall into the 28 subject areas for which we do not yet have textbooks. The list of eligible subject areas can be found in the resources section of this Call for Proposals.

Type Two Adaptations, for instructors and others interested in engaging with us in implementing specific modifications to some of the texts already reviewed. The specific modifications are also listed in the resources section.

Adaptations can take many forms, including but not limited to:

extending an existing open textbook by creating accompanying instructional resources such as presentation files and test questions,
localizing an existing open textbook so that the examples used within it are appropriate for a Canadian context,
enhancing an existing open textbook so that its quality is such that it is appropriate for use in B.C.,
bringing together a number of existing open educational resources to create a single text.

Please see the website for more information.
